Gap Year

What is a GAP year?

The GAP year occurs between the student's senior year in high school and freshman year in college. Typically, a student will choose a GAP year because he/she is in need of a break from academia, he/she has some interests to explore before committing to four years of college or he/she is still young and feels a need to mature one year before going off to college. Students who choose to take GAP years generally go through the college application process their senior year of high school, just like everyone else. When they receive acceptance letters and choose the college they will wish to attend, they will call the institution and ask for a deferral of a year. Colleges will always grant the student's wish. The student can then go on their GAP year experience not having to worry about the following year.
